From CHF 390
- Duration
- 1 hour
Starting price. The exact price depends on photographer, place, date, time and add-ons, and is stated in your proposal before you book.
Quick answers
- How much does it cost?
- Couple Photoshoot starts from CHF 390. The final price depends on the place, duration, date, time of day, travel and any add-ons such as video, and is stated in your proposal before you book.
- How long does it take?
- A typical session lasts 1 hour and you receive around 40 edited photos.
- What is included?
- A planning exchange about the place, the time of day and the look you want
- A short route chosen for light and crowds at your hour, usually two or three spots
- Posing guidance built around walking and talking rather than held poses
- Professional editing of a curated selection of images
- Where does it take place?
- Popular places include Zurich: Lindenhof to the lake; Lucerne: Chapel Bridge and the Nationalquai; Geneva: the Old Town and Bains des Pâquis; Lavaux vineyard terraces, Lake Geneva. Your photographer suggests the best spot for your date, the light and the crowds.
- When is the best time?
- Old towns are quietest around sunrise, before shops open and tour groups arrive; lakefronts and vineyards come alive in the last hour before sunset, when the light is low and warm.
- How does booking work?
- Send a free request with your place, date and plans. Alpiora checks which photographers are available and replies with a proposal stating the photographer, the package and the exact price. Nothing is booked until you accept.
A couple session is the most flexible thing Alpiora books. There is no ring to hide, no ceremony to time and no children to keep entertained: just the two of you, an hour or so, and a photographer who knows where the light falls. The real decision is not which city is prettiest but which setting matches how you actually want to look in the photographs.
This hub compares the three kinds of setting people book across Switzerland — old towns, lakes and the Alps — and what changes with each: price, duration, outfits and the best hour. For what a session actually includes, see couple photography. If a proposal is part of the plan, the planning is different; read proposal photography instead.
Alpiora matches you with an independent photographer reviewed for their couples portfolio, languages and local knowledge. You send a free, no-obligation request with your dates and the place you have in mind, and you receive a proposal naming the photographer, the package and the price before anything is booked.
Where the session happens
- 01
Zurich: Lindenhof to the lake
A short walk links the shaded lane of Augustinergasse, the lime-tree terrace of the Lindenhof looking over the Limmat, and the Utoquai promenade on Lake Zurich. It suits couples who want an old-town look and open water in one session. See couple photography in Zurich.
Best time: Late afternoon into the hour before sunset, ending at the lake
- 02
Lucerne: Chapel Bridge and the Nationalquai
The covered bridge and painted old-town squares are nearly empty at sunrise, and the Nationalquai gives open water with Pilatus and Rigi across the lake by evening. Few places pack an old town and a lake into so short a walk. Details in couple photos in Lucerne.
Best time: Sunrise on the bridge; late afternoon to sunset on the lakefront
- 03
Geneva: the Old Town and Bains des Pâquis
The cobbled lanes around Bourg-de-Four and St. Pierre Cathedral give a European-city look, and the Bains des Pâquis jetty puts you on the water with the Jet d’Eau behind you. The two are about 15 minutes apart on foot.
Best time: Morning in the Old Town for empty lanes; late afternoon to sunset at the jetty
- 04
Lavaux vineyard terraces, Lake Geneva
Stone-walled terraces fall to the lake between Lausanne and Montreux, reached by local trains to Cully, Epesses or Saint-Saphorin. The lanes between the vines are narrow and quiet, and the view opens onto water and the French Alps across the lake.
Best time: The last two hours before sunset; late October for golden vines
- 05
Zermatt: Riffelsee and the Matterhorn
The car-free village gives you the Matterhorn from the Kirchbrücke at sunrise, and the Gornergrat Bahn to Rotenboden reaches Riffelsee, which mirrors the peak on calm mornings. It is the most dramatic couple setting in the country and the starting point for a longer Alpine session.
Best time: First light for the village; mid-morning at Riffelsee, roughly late June to October
- 06
Lugano: the Riva and Monte Brè
Palm-lined promenades and arcaded lanes give a Mediterranean feel without leaving Switzerland, and the funicular up Monte Brè reaches a viewpoint over the lake for the last hour before sunset. Spring blossom in Parco Ciani adds another setting nearby.
Best time: Early morning on the Riva; the last 90 minutes before sunset on Monte Brè
Typically included
- A planning exchange about the place, the time of day and the look you want
- A short route chosen for light and crowds at your hour, usually two or three spots
- Posing guidance built around walking and talking rather than held poses
- Professional editing of a curated selection of images
- A private online gallery with high-resolution downloads for personal use
- Optional extras quoted in the proposal: extra time, a second location, sunrise or sunset, video
Preparation
- Decide on the setting first — old town, lake or mountain — and let the outfits and timing follow from it.
- Book the hour after sunrise or before sunset. In late June the sun sets after 21.00 in the lowlands; in December it is gone before 17.00.
- Cobbled old towns and Alpine paths both reward comfortable shoes; bring a second pair for close portraits if you like.
- At altitude, pack a warm layer even in summer. You take it off for the photographs, not before.
- Mountain lifts often close for maintenance in spring and November; check the operator’s timetable before fixing an Alpine date.
- Leave a buffer after the session. Couples rushing to a dinner reservation tend to look like it.
Time of day
Old towns are quietest around sunrise, before shops open and tour groups arrive; lakefronts and vineyards come alive in the last hour before sunset, when the light is low and warm. Mountain viewpoints such as Riffelsee are calmest in the morning, before cloud builds. In late June the sun sets after 21.00, so an evening session runs late; from October it falls before 18.00 and the golden hour moves earlier in the day.
Weather
Swiss weather changes by region and altitude, sometimes on the same day. Summer afternoons build cloud and thunderstorms over the Alps, so mountain sessions favour the morning. From October to February, low fog often sits over the lakes of the plateau while Rigi, Pilatus or Uetliberg stand in sunshine above it, and Ticino is frequently bright when the rest of the country is grey. Light rain works well under old-town arcades and covered bridges; your photographer watches the forecast with you and rescheduling terms are stated in your proposal.
Getting there
Swiss cities are linked by frequent trains, and a session usually starts a short walk from the main station: Zurich HB, Lucerne, Cornavin in Geneva. Zermatt is car-free and reached by changing at Visp; the Gornergrat Bahn leaves opposite the village station. Local trains stop in the Lavaux wine villages between Lausanne and Vevey, and boats connect Lucerne with the cable cars up Rigi and Pilatus. A Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card reduces many of these fares, including mountain lines.
City, lake or Alpine: choosing your setting
The three settings photograph very differently, and each suits a different couple.
Old towns give architecture, arcades and cobbled lanes that work in any weather and keep the price at the starting level. Zurich and Lucerne are the most compact, with an old town, a river and a lake within a short walk of each other; Geneva adds an international, cosmopolitan feel around Bourg-de-Four. These sessions run 60 minutes comfortably and are the easiest to plan around a city break.
Lakes and vineyards add water, reflections and, around Lake Geneva, the stone terraces of Lavaux. They photograph best in the last light before sunset and pair naturally with a city session earlier the same day, since most lake settings sit within reach of a station.
Alpine locations such as Zermatt give the most dramatic single image, but the price starts from CHF 650 because of the travel involved and sessions there usually run 90 minutes. They also carry more weather risk: the Matterhorn makes its own cloud, often by midday in summer, which is why mountain sessions are planned for the morning.
If you cannot decide, think about your itinerary rather than the map: the best setting is usually the one you can reach without rushing, on a day you are not also catching a train.
What to wear, by setting
Clothes read differently against stone, water and snow, so the setting should decide the outfit, not the other way round.
City streets
Mid-tones such as navy, olive, rust or cream sit well against grey stone and cobbles. A structured jacket or coat photographs better than very casual layers in an old town. Flat shoes or low heels cope with cobblestones; steps at spots such as the Lindenhof or Geneva’s Bourg-de-Four are uneven.
Lakefronts and vineyards
Lighter, flowing fabrics move well in the breeze off the water, and pale or dusty colours hold up against bright reflected light at midday. For Lavaux, closed shoes are more practical than sandals on gravel lanes between the vines. A light scarf or shawl adds a layer for the evening without changing the look.
Alpine trails and snow
Warm layers under the outfit, not instead of it: a coat or wrap you can remove for the photographs and put straight back on. Walking shoes or boots are worth the compromise on style once you are on gravel or snow; you can change into lighter shoes for the final portraits if the ground allows. Bright colours stand out well against snow and rock, where muted city tones can look flat.
Avoid fine stripes, small checks and large logos in every setting: they flicker or distract in photographs regardless of the backdrop.
Engagement, honeymoon or just because: adapting the session
A couple session is the same product underneath, but the occasion changes the details worth planning for.
Engagement. Many couples book a session after saying yes, before the wedding, to use for save-the-dates or simply to mark the moment. If a photographed proposal is still ahead of you, that is a different service: see proposal photography. Once the proposal is behind you, an engagement session is planned the same way as a couple shoot, with more attention paid to a ring shot and, often, a slightly longer session to include a wardrobe change.
Honeymoon. Couples travelling after the wedding often book a session at one stop of their route rather than trying to fit it everywhere. Honeymoon photography compares which city or region works best for that, how to fit it into a longer trip, and multi-location options if your honeymoon covers more than one place.
No occasion at all. An anniversary, a first trip together, moving to Zurich or Geneva, or simply wanting photographs of the two of you together are all common reasons to book, and the session itself does not change. Tell us what the photographs are for when you request, since it helps us match a photographer whose style fits.
Season by season
Spring (March to May)
Blossom in Ticino and around the lakes from March, fresh green in the vineyards from May, and snow still on the high peaks. Some mountain lifts pause for maintenance in spring, so check the operator’s timetable before fixing an Alpine date.
Summer (June to September)
The lakes of central Switzerland are at their most turquoise, the sun sets after 21.00 in the lowlands, and afternoon thunderstorms are common in the Alps. It is also the busiest season in old towns and at famous viewpoints, so early mornings are worth planning for.
Autumn (October and November)
The Lavaux vines turn gold in late October, larches around Zermatt colour from late September, and calm high-pressure days often bring fog over the lakes while the surrounding hills stay in sunshine. Some mountain lifts close for a maintenance break in November.
Winter (December to February)
Old towns and Christmas markets work well in the low winter light, Zermatt and the high Alps carry snow from December, and early sunsets make an afternoon session easier to fit around a short day. Ticino is frequently sunny while the rest of the country sits under grey skies.
Budget: what a couple photoshoot costs
Every figure below is a starting price. The exact amount depends on the photographer, place, date, time of day and add-ons, and is stated in your proposal before you book.
| Option | What it covers | From |
|---|---|---|
| City session | About 60 minutes, one setting such as an old town or lakefront | CHF 390 |
| Alpine session | About 90 minutes in a mountain location such as Zermatt | CHF 650 |
| Premium 90-minute session | Two settings or sunset plus blue hour, in a city | CHF 550 |
| Multi-location session | Two nearby places the same day, about 2.5 hours | CHF 850 |
| Photo tour | Several places with travel between them, about 4 hours | CHF 1,200 |
What moves the figure
- Weekend dates and peak-season demand
- Very early or late slots for sunrise and sunset
- Mountain transport: the photographer’s train and lift tickets, listed in your proposal
- A second location or extra time beyond the starting package
- Video, where you want it
Your own costs come on top for Alpine settings: mountain railway or cable-car tickets for you both. A Half Fare Card or Swiss Travel Pass reduces many of these fares. See pricing for how the tiers relate to each other.

Find My PhotographerFrequently asked questions
Where is the best place for couple photos in Switzerland?
It depends on the look you want rather than one single best place. Old towns such as Lucerne and Zurich give architecture and easy access; the Lavaux terraces and Lake Geneva give water and vineyards; Zermatt gives the most dramatic mountain backdrop. Choose the setting that matches your trip and the style of photographs you picture.
How much does a couple photoshoot in Switzerland cost?
Sessions start from CHF 390 for about 60 minutes in a city and from CHF 650 in Alpine locations. A 90-minute city session starts from CHF 550, and two nearby settings on the same day from CHF 850. The exact price depends on the photographer, date, time of day and add-ons, and is stated in your proposal before you book.
Do we need a special occasion to book a couple session?
No. Anniversaries, a first trip together, a move to Switzerland or simply wanting good photographs of the two of you are all common reasons, and none is required. If a ring is involved, see proposal photography; for a wedding trip, see honeymoon photography.
What should we wear for a couple photoshoot in Switzerland?
Mid-tones that go together without matching work in every setting: navy, olive, cream or dusty pink read well against grey stone, blue water and green vineyards. Avoid large logos and fine stripes, which flicker in photographs. Shoes matter more than most people expect; see the wardrobe section below for outfits by setting.
Can we combine city and mountain settings in one trip?
Yes, either as two separate sessions in different places, or as a single multi-location session if the two settings are close together, such as Lucerne’s old town and a boat trip to a lakeside village. A Swiss photo tour covers several places with travel between them in one longer session.
What happens if it rains?
Light rain works well under the covered bridges of Lucerne, the arcades of Bern or Lugano, and with an umbrella almost anywhere. If the forecast is poor, your photographer suggests a new time within your stay; the exact rescheduling terms are set out in your proposal.
Can we book a sunrise session?
Yes, and it is usually the quietest time at popular spots such as the Chapel Bridge or the Lindenhof. Very early starts can carry a surcharge, shown in your proposal, and in the mountains you should check that the first train or lift runs early enough to reach your chosen spot.
