How does booking work?
Send a free request with your place, date and plans. Alpiora checks which photographers are available and replies with a proposal stating the photographer, the package and the exact price. Nothing is booked until you accept.

A maternity session records a few weeks that pass quickly. In Switzerland it usually happens outdoors: along a lakeside promenade, in a rose garden or at the edge of a vineyard, in soft light and with a bench never far away.

Most bookings come from people who live here, often in the Zurich, Geneva and Lausanne areas, and from couples on a last trip before the baby. Either way, the session is planned around your comfort: short walks, shade, water, a toilet nearby and breaks whenever you need them. The photographer handles the posing, including the positions that flatter a bump without asking you to hold anything for long.

Partners and older children are welcome. Many families later book a family photoshoot in the same place once the baby has arrived.

Where the session happens

Flat, green and near water is the formula. In Zurich, the east shore of Lake Zurich around Zürichhorn has lawns, trees and a level promenade; see maternity photography in Zurich. In Geneva, the rose garden in Parc La Grange peaks in June. The lakefront at Ouchy in Lausanne is level and close to the metro, while Lavaux offers vineyard views if you choose a gentle stretch of path. In Lugano, Parco Ciani runs along the lake right by the centre. Mountain locations are possible, but they start from CHF 650 and involve more travel and altitude.

Preparation tips

  • Many photographers suggest a session between about week 28 and week 34, when the bump shows clearly and moving is still comfortable.
  • Book earlier if you are expecting twins or have been advised to rest; the proposal states how rescheduling works.
  • In July and August, choose early morning or evening to avoid the midday heat.
  • Bring one fitted outfit that shows the bump and one flowing dress that moves in the wind.
  • Flat shoes for walking, with anything dressier carried in a bag.
  • Bring water, a snack and a light layer; lakeside evenings cool quickly.
  • If a mountain location appeals, ask your doctor or midwife about altitude before you plan it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a maternity photoshoot in Switzerland cost?

Maternity sessions start from CHF 450 for about 60 minutes and around 40 edited photos. Alpine locations start from CHF 650. Extra time, a second location or a weekend date are priced in your proposal; see what a photographer costs in Switzerland.

When is the best time in pregnancy for a maternity shoot?

Many photographers recommend roughly week 28 to week 34, when the bump is clearly visible and walking is still easy. Every pregnancy is different, so choose a date that feels right to you and book a little earlier if you are expecting more than one baby.

What if I need to reschedule because of my pregnancy?

Tell the photographer as soon as you can. How rescheduling is handled is stated in your proposal, and photographers who do maternity work are used to plans changing at short notice.

Can my partner and children be in the photos?

Yes. Most maternity sessions include some photos with the partner, and older siblings are welcome. Mention everyone who will join when you request, so the photographer can plan the time.

Can I travel to Switzerland for a maternity shoot late in pregnancy?

That depends on your airline and your doctor. SWISS, for example, accepts passengers with an uncomplicated single pregnancy until the end of week 36 and recommends a medical certificate after week 28; other airlines set their own limits, so check yours before booking.

Is a mountain location a good idea while pregnant?

Ask your doctor or midwife first, especially for very high places such as the Jungfraujoch at 3,454 metres. Lakeside and old-town locations give beautiful results without altitude, long walks or cable cars.
