Quick answers

How much does it cost?
Honeymoon Photography starts from CHF 650. The final price depends on the place, duration, date, time of day, travel and any add-ons such as video, and is stated in your proposal before you book.
How long does it take?
A typical session lasts 1 h 30 min and you receive around 60 edited photos.
What is included?
  • A planning exchange about your route, dates and the stop that suits the session
  • A place and time chosen for light and crowds at that stop
  • Around 90 minutes of photography in the starting package
  • Two or three settings, for example a lakeside, a lane and a viewpoint
Where does it take place?
Popular places include Lucerne: Chapel Bridge and the Nationalquai; Interlaken, Iseltwald and Harder Kulm; Zermatt: Riffelsee, Stellisee and the Kirchbrücke; Lugano: the Riva, Parco Ciani and Monte Brè. Your photographer suggests the best spot for your date, the light and the crowds.
When is the best time?
It depends on the stop.
How does booking work?
Send a free request with your place, date and plans. Alpiora checks which photographers are available and replies with a proposal stating the photographer, the package and the exact price. Nothing is booked until you accept.

Most Swiss honeymoons follow a route rather than a single base: a lake city, a mountain village, perhaps the south or the Riviera. The question is rarely whether to have photographs taken, but where on that route the session gives you the most, and on which day it will not collide with a train, a cable car timetable or a cloud over the Matterhorn.

This page answers that. It compares the six stops where honeymoon sessions are most often booked, explains which hour suits each one, and shows how to place the shoot within the trip so the weather has room to change its mind. What the session itself includes is described on the honeymoon photography service page.

Alpiora matches you with an independent photographer at the stop you choose. You send a free request with your dates and route, we reply personally, and you receive a proposal with the photographer’s name, the plan and the price before anything is confirmed. You can read photographer profiles first to see languages and style.

Where the session happens

  1. 01

Lucerne: Chapel Bridge and the Nationalquai

The most compact honeymoon setting in the country: covered bridge, painted squares and a chestnut-lined lakefront facing Pilatus, all within a 20-minute walk. Easy to reach on arrival from Zurich, and a natural first stop. See honeymoon photos in Lucerne.

Best time: Sunrise to about 8.30 on the bridge; the last hour before sunset on the lakefront

  2. 02

    Interlaken, Iseltwald and Harder Kulm

Two lakes, the turquoise Aare and the Jungfrau at the end of the Höhematte meadow, with the Lauterbrunnen valley half an hour away by train. The Bernese Oberland gives the widest choice of backdrops from one hotel. Details on honeymoon sessions in Interlaken.

Best time: Early morning in town and at Iseltwald; late afternoon to sunset at Harder Kulm, spring to autumn

  3. 03

Zermatt: Riffelsee, Stellisee and the Kirchbrücke

The car-free village and its lakes give you the Matterhorn twice, in the sky and in still water. It is the most dramatic stop on most honeymoon routes and the one most exposed to cloud, so it rewards a two-night stay. See honeymoon photography in Zermatt.

Best time: First light: the summit turns pink before the village gets sun, and the lakes are calm until mid-morning

  4. 04

Lugano: the Riva, Parco Ciani and Monte Brè

Palms, arcaded lanes and a lake framed by two mountains give an Italian look without leaving Switzerland. The best choice if your honeymoon falls in spring, when camellias and magnolias flower in Parco Ciani, or if you want a warmer, slower stop after the Alps.

Best time: Early morning on the promenade; the last 90 minutes before sunset on Monte Brè

  5. 05

    Montreux, Chillon and Lavaux

The Lake Geneva Riviera pairs a flower-lined promenade with Chillon Castle on its rock and the terraced vineyards of Lavaux to the west. It is the elegant, gentle end of a route that comes over from Interlaken on the GoldenPass line.

Best time: The last 90 minutes before sunset on the quay; golden hour at Chillon

  6. 06

    St. Moritz and Muottas Muragl

The Engadine gives clear, dry light, a chain of lakes and a quiet luxury that suits winter honeymoons especially. From the Muottas Muragl terrace the sun sets down the length of the valley. In October the larches turn gold.

Best time: Sunset at Muottas Muragl from June to October; mornings on the lakes before the Maloja wind

Typically included

  • A planning exchange about your route, dates and the stop that suits the session
  • A place and time chosen for light and crowds at that stop
  • Around 90 minutes of photography in the starting package
  • Two or three settings, for example a lakeside, a lane and a viewpoint
  • Relaxed direction, candid moments and a few classic portraits
  • Professional editing and a private online gallery
  • Optional extras quoted in the proposal: second location, sunrise, video

Preparation

  • Send your full itinerary with the request, not just one date; it helps us suggest the stop with the best margin.
  • Choose a stop where you sleep at least two nights, so the session can move if the weather turns.
  • Keep the session away from your arrival day and from the day of a long train transfer.
  • If you bring your wedding outfit, plan how you will travel in it and choose a spot close to your hotel or a station.
  • For mountain stops, pack a warm layer and walking shoes to change out of on the spot.
  • Check lift and railway seasons for your dates; some lines pause in spring and November.

Time of day

It depends on the stop. Zermatt and the Bernese Oberland peaks are clearest in the morning; Lucerne’s bridges are empty only around sunrise; Lugano, Montreux and Muottas Muragl come alive in the hour before sunset. In midsummer the sun sets after 21.00, so a sunset session means a late dinner; from October it falls before dinner and the light is lower all day.

Weather

Swiss weather differs sharply between regions on the same day. Summer afternoons often build cloud and thunderstorms over the Alps, so mountain stops favour morning sessions. From October to February low fog can sit over Lucerne and the lakes while Rigi, Pilatus or Glion stand in sunshine above it, and Ticino is often bright while the north is grey. A spare evening in the same place is the most useful weather plan; rescheduling terms are stated in your proposal.

Getting there

Switzerland’s classic honeymoon stops are linked by rail, so the photographer usually meets you at your hotel or the nearest station. Lucerne is about 45 minutes from Zurich, Interlaken about 50 minutes from Bern, and Zermatt is reached by changing at Visp. Mountain spots are reached by funicular, cogwheel railway or gondola; the photographer’s tickets are normally listed as travel costs in the proposal. A Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card reduces many of these fares.

Which stop of your itinerary to book the shoot in

The best stop is rarely the most famous one. It is the one where you sleep at least two nights, where the landscape suits the look you want, and where the photographer can move the session by a day if the sky closes in.

  • Lucerne is the safe choice for a first stop: the old town, bridges and lakefront work in almost any weather, and covered bridges and arcades keep you dry. Book sunrise if the Chapel Bridge matters to you.
  • Interlaken gives the most variety from one hotel: meadow and Jungfrau in town, turquoise water at Iseltwald, cliffs and waterfalls in Lauterbrunnen.
  • Zermatt is the headline image, and the riskiest, because the Matterhorn makes its own cloud. Two nights or more, and a morning session.
  • Lugano is for spring, for warmth and for couples who prefer arcades and palms to snow.
  • Montreux suits an elegant, unhurried session on the quay with Chillon Castle as a second frame.
  • St. Moritz is the winter and October choice, with clear Engadine light and a luxury-resort feel.

If two stops tie, pick the one where you arrive rested. A session on the morning after a six-hour train day rarely looks relaxed.

Classic Swiss honeymoon routes and where the light is best

Most honeymoon routes are built from a handful of rail links. Knowing them helps you place the session at the stop where the light and the timetable agree.

Route segmentHow you travelWhere to shoot and when
Zurich → LucerneDirect train, about 45 minutesLucerne at sunrise on the Chapel Bridge, or the Nationalquai at sunset
Lucerne → InterlakenLuzern–Interlaken Express over the Brünig PassInterlaken early morning on the Höhematte; Harder Kulm at sunset
Interlaken → MontreuxGoldenPass Express via GstaadMontreux quay in the last 90 minutes before sunset
Interlaken or Bern → ZermattTrain with a change at VispZermatt at first light, Riffelsee or Stellisee from late June to early October
Zermatt → St. MoritzGlacier Express, about eight hours, seat reservation requiredSt. Moritz at sunset on Muottas Muragl
Zurich → LuganoDirect through the Gotthard base tunnel, just under two hoursLugano in the morning on the Riva, Monte Brè at sunset

Two things catch couples out. The Glacier Express does not run from 11 October to 4 December 2026, so an autumn Zermatt–St. Moritz leg needs another plan. And the Gornergrat railway above Zermatt is closed from 2 to 14 November 2026 for construction work. Check both before you fix the date of a mountain session.

Do not book the shoot on the day of a long panorama train. You arrive late, the light has gone, and you will want dinner, not a camera.

Timing within the trip

Place the session in the first half of the trip, on the second day at a stop where you stay two nights or longer. That leaves the following evening as a spare slot if rain or cloud moves in, and you still have the energy for a sunrise.

Long-haul jet lag can work for you. Couples flying in from India, the Gulf or East Asia often wake very early in the first days, which makes a sunrise session at the Chapel Bridge or the Kirchbrücke in Zermatt surprisingly easy. Couples from the Americas tend to be alert late, so a sunset slot suits them better early in the trip.

Season changes the clock. In late June the sun sets after 21.00, so a sunset shoot ends near 22.00. In October the golden hour falls around 18.00 in the mountains, and the larches in Zermatt and the Engadine are at their colour. In December and January the light is low all day and sunset comes before 17.00.

Tell us the whole route when you request availability. We can then suggest the stop and day with the most margin, and point out lift maintenance periods, festivals or events that would change the plan.

Multi-location and photo-tour options

One session at one stop is enough for most couples. If you want more than one landscape, there are three ways to do it.

  1. Two places on the same day. A multi-location session of around 2.5 hours covers nearby settings, for example Lucerne’s old town followed by a boat to a lakeside village, or Interlaken plus Iseltwald. From CHF 850.
  2. A photo tour. The photographer travels with you for around four hours between places, by train, boat or cable car, for example Lucerne and the Rigi. The Swiss photo tour starts from CHF 1,200.
  3. Two sessions at two stops. A morning in Zermatt and an evening in Lugano a few days later are simply two bookings, each with its own local photographer.

If the honeymoon is part of a longer holiday with family or friends, vacation photography covers relaxed holiday coverage beyond the couple portraits. For a whole day together, from breakfast to the last light, ask about the full-day option.

Budget: what a Swiss honeymoon shoot costs

Platform prices are starting figures. Each photographer sets their own package at or above them, and your proposal lists the exact price.

OptionTypical lengthFrom
Honeymoon session at one stopabout 90 minutesCHF 650
Two or more places, same dayabout 2.5 hoursCHF 850
Swiss photo tour with travelabout 4 hoursCHF 1,200
Full dayabout 8 hoursCHF 2,500

Add third-party costs where the session goes up a mountain: your own tickets and usually the photographer’s. A standard Gornergrat return from Zermatt was around CHF 95–135 in 2026 depending on season, with half price on the Half Fare Card or Swiss Travel Pass; check current fares before you travel. City and lakeside sessions have no such costs.

Frequently asked questions

Which Swiss city is best for a honeymoon photoshoot?

There is no single answer, but Lucerne, Interlaken and Zermatt are the most booked because they sit on the classic route and offer water, old streets and mountains within reach. Lugano suits spring and a Mediterranean look, Montreux suits an elegant lakeside style, and St. Moritz is strongest in winter and October. Choose the stop where you stay longest.

How much does a honeymoon photographer in Switzerland cost?

Sessions start from CHF 650 for around 90 minutes. Two places on the same day start from CHF 850 and a photo tour with travel from CHF 1,200. Mountain transport, sunrise slots and video are added in your proposal, and our honeymoon photography price guide gives example budgets.

Should we book the shoot at the start or end of our honeymoon?

Early rather than late, at a stop with at least two nights. You look rested, and a spare evening remains if the weather is poor. Avoid the arrival day, when jet lag and luggage get in the way, and the last day, when there is no room to move the session.

Can we be photographed in two places on our honeymoon?

Yes. Nearby places on the same day, such as Lucerne’s old town and a lakeside village, are booked as a multi-location session. Different regions on different days are simply two sessions, or a photo tour if the photographer travels with you between places.

Is it worth doing a honeymoon shoot in winter?

Yes, if you choose the right stop. Zermatt’s village and Gornergrat, St. Moritz’s frozen lake and Lucerne’s quiet old town all photograph well with snow. Days are short, so sessions are planned around midday or the early sunset, and warm layers go under your outfit.

Can we bring our wedding dress and suit to Switzerland for the shoot?

Many couples do. Choose a spot close to your hotel or a short, level walk from a station, such as the Lucerne lakefront or the Montreux quay. For lakes above Zermatt, change on arrival or wear the outfit for only part of the session.

Do we need a permit for honeymoon photos in Switzerland?

Not usually for a small private session in public streets, parks and paths. Geneva is an exception: the city requires authorisation for photo sessions on public ground, requested in advance. Drones are restricted in many places, including Zermatt, Lucerne and Lugano, so ask before you plan aerial shots.
