Quick answers
- How much does it cost?
- Engagement Photography starts from CHF 390. The final price depends on the place, duration, date, time of day, travel and any add-ons such as video, and is stated in your proposal before you book.
- How long does it take?
- A typical session lasts 1 hour and you receive around 40 edited photos.
- What is included?
- A planning exchange about where the photos will be used and the look you want
- A route with two or three settings suited to your time of day
- Frames composed with space for text, in portrait and landscape orientation, on request
- Ring and detail close-ups alongside wider portraits
- Where does it take place?
- Popular places include Zurich, Geneva, Lucerne, Interlaken, and Bern. Your photographer suggests the best spot for your date, the light and the crowds.
- Who is it for?
- Newly engaged couples who want photographs of this chapter on its own
- Couples who need images for save-the-dates, invitations or a wedding website
- Couples planning a Swiss wedding or elopement who want to see the region first
- Those who proposed without a photographer and would like proper photos with the ring
- How does booking work?
- Send a free request with your place, date and plans. Alpiora checks which photographers are available and replies with a proposal stating the photographer, the package and the exact price. Nothing is booked until you accept.
The question has been asked and answered. An engagement session is the calmer sequel: no hiding, no signal, just the two of you and a photographer, with time to change outfits, walk somewhere you like and take the ring close-ups you did not think of on the day. If you are still planning the question itself, see proposal photography.
What sets it apart from an ordinary couple photoshoot is purpose. If the photos will go on a save-the-date card, the photographer frames some of them with space for text, in both portrait and landscape. If they are for your wedding website, you want variety: close, wide, candid, posed.
Many couples planning a wedding or elopement in Switzerland from abroad use the engagement session as a trial run: seeing the region in person, testing what works in front of a camera and finding out how they like to be directed.
How it works
- 1
Send a free availability request
Tell us your date, place and what the photos are for. If you have a print deadline, mention it. The request is free and without obligation.
- 2
We match you with a photographer
We check which reviewed photographers are free and suit the style you describe, and reply personally.
- 3
Proposal and confirmation
The proposal names the photographer, the duration, the price and the payment terms, and states the delivery time for your photographs. You confirm by accepting it.
- 4
Plan and shoot
You agree the route, the outfits and where to change with the photographer, then meet on the day.
Where the session happens
For a city look, the old town and river bridges of Lucerne or the lake promenade in Zurich keep the session at its starting price and work in every season. Lake Lucerne adds boats and piers; the vineyards of Lavaux give save-the-date cards a quiet, open background. The Rhine Falls suit couples who want water and movement. Mountain sessions start from CHF 650. For a place-by-place overview, see our guide to engagement photoshoots across Switzerland.
Preparation tips
- Decide early what the photos are for. A save-the-date needs different framing from a print for the living room.
- If you have a print deadline, allow for the delivery time in your proposal plus design and printing.
- Plan two looks at most in 60 minutes, and know where you will change: a hotel, a café or a car nearby.
- Get a manicure or at least clean hands. The ring close-ups show everything.
- Bring something personal, such as your dog or a bicycle, if it tells your story.
- Choose colours that sit with your wedding palette if the images will go on stationery.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an engagement photoshoot in Switzerland cost?
Engagement sessions through Alpiora start from CHF 390 for about an hour in a city. In Alpine locations the starting price is CHF 650. The final price depends on the photographer, place, date, duration and add-ons, and is shown in your proposal. Our couple photoshoot cost guide explains what drives the difference.
How is an engagement shoot different from a couple photoshoot?
The session itself is similar, but it is planned around what the photos are for. The photographer adds ring details, frames with space for text and both orientations for stationery. Many couples also use it to get used to their photographer before the wedding.
When should we book it relative to the wedding?
If the photos are for save-the-dates, book early enough to allow for delivery, design and printing. The delivery time is agreed in advance and stated in your proposal. For a wedding website or personal prints, any time before the wedding works.
Can the same photographer cover our wedding?
Possibly. Mention it in your request and we will take it into account when matching, subject to their availability on your wedding date. See wedding photography for how full-day coverage works.
Can we change outfits during the session?
Yes. In 60 minutes one change is realistic; for more, book 90 minutes. Plan where you will change in advance, such as your hotel or a nearby café, so the time goes on photographs.
We already got engaged without a photographer. Is it too late?
Not at all. Many couples book an engagement session weeks or months after the proposal, sometimes at the same place. The photographer can recreate the setting calmly, with better light and time for the ring shots.
