Quick answers

- When is the best time?

- Couple Photoshoot, Family Photoshoot, Personal Branding Photography, Proposal Photography, Luxury Vacation Photography, and Solo Traveler Photoshoot
- Getting there
- Davos is on the Rhaetian Railway, reached from Zurich via Landquart, and has two main stations: Davos Dorf by the lake and Davos Platz in the centre.

- Send a free request with your place, date and plans. Alpiora checks which photographers are available and replies with a proposal stating the photographer, the package and the exact price. Nothing is booked until you accept.
Davos is a town rather than a village: a long high valley with Davos Dorf at the lake end and Davos Platz a few kilometres further on. It has modern architecture, big hotels and conference buildings, and within minutes of the centre you are in forest, on a lake shore or on a funicular.
That mix makes Davos practical. A family photoshoot can stay flat and short by the lake; a personal branding session can use the town’s clean modern lines; a couple can go up to Schatzalp or out to the Walser hamlet in the Sertig valley.
Davos counts as an Alpine location, so sessions start from CHF 650. It is also a good second stop on a Graubünden trip together with St. Moritz.

Lake Davos (Davosersee)
The lake lies at the northern end of Davos Dorf, framed by forested slopes. A path of about 4 km runs all the way round, flat and pushchair-friendly, with jetties and meadows along the shore. It is the easiest setting in town for families and older relatives.
- Best time
- Morning for calmer water; late afternoon in summer for warm light
- Access
- A short walk from Davos Dorf station; the round walk takes about an hour
- 02
Schatzalp
At 1,860 m above Davos Platz stands the Berghotel Schatzalp, opened in 1900 as a tuberculosis sanatorium and built in Art Nouveau style; it appears in Thomas Mann’s novel The Magic Mountain. Long balconies, period interiors and the view down over the valley give a shoot a quiet, cinematic feel. In summer the Alpinum garden next door adds alpine flowers.
- Best time
- Late afternoon for the valley view; the garden from mid-May to mid-October
- Access
- Schatzalp funicular from Davos Platz, about 4 minutes; runs in summer and winter
- 03
Jakobshorn
The lift from Davos Platz climbs in two sections via Ischalp to around 2,590 m, with views across the valley to the Parsenn side. In summer, a walk of about 30 minutes from the top station leads to the small Stadler See mountain lake; in winter it is a ski and snow setting.
- Best time
- Morning or late afternoon; summer 2026 operation 27 June to 18 October
- Access
- Cable car from Davos Platz, two sections
- 04
Parsenn and Weissfluhjoch
The Parsenn lifts from Davos Dorf lead to Weissfluhjoch and the large ski area above the lake. For winter shoots this is the place for deep snow and high-alpine horizons; photographers keep clients off the pistes for safety.
- Best time
- Winter; the 2026/27 season starts on 13 November with weekend operation
- Access
- Parsenn railway and cable cars from Davos Dorf; check summer operating dates in advance
- 05
Sertig valley
A side valley south of Davos where the road ends at Sertig Dörfli, a Walser hamlet with dark wooden houses and a small white church against steep mountain walls. It is the most traditional setting around Davos and very quiet on weekday mornings. A short walk further on is the Sertig waterfall.
- Best time
- Morning; late September and October for autumn colour
- Access
- Bus from Davos Platz to Sertig Dörfli, about 20 minutes, or by car
- 06
Kirchner Museum and Davos Platz
The painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner lived in Davos from 1917 until his death in 1938, and the museum dedicated to him is a set of clean glass-and-concrete volumes. Its surroundings and the modern hotel façades of Davos Platz suit branding and editorial portraits.
- Best time
- Any time of day; overcast light works well for portraits
- Access
- In the centre of Davos Platz, a few minutes on foot from the station

Seasons
Summer (late June to September) opens the lake path, flower meadows, the Schatzalp garden and the Jakobshorn lift. Autumn brings larch colour in the side valleys, especially Sertig. Winter (December to March) is snow season on Parsenn and Jakobshorn. Avoid the week of the World Economic Forum in January unless you have a reason to be there: hotels are full and security zones restrict movement.
Time of day
Davos lies in a valley running roughly north-east to south-west, so the sun leaves the valley floor early in winter. Plan winter sessions around midday; in summer, the late afternoon on the lake and at Schatzalp gives the warmest light.
Weather
At 1,560 m Davos is cool even in summer and properly cold in winter, and weather in the high valley can turn quickly. The town is far enough into Graubünden that it is often drier than the northern Alps. Your photographer will suggest a flexible time window, and the Schatzalp and the town offer covered backup options on grey days.
Getting there
Davos is on the Rhaetian Railway, reached from Zurich via Landquart, and has two main stations: Davos Dorf by the lake and Davos Platz in the centre. For St. Moritz, change trains in Filisur; the Glacier Express does not stop in Davos, but you can join it in Filisur. Local buses connect Dorf, Platz and the side valleys, and a guest card usually includes local bus travel; check what your hotel provides.
Good to know
Lift and funicular tickets are paid separately and are normally itemised in your proposal. Davos has no airport, but Swiss drone rules apply everywhere: check the federal drone map for restricted zones before any flight, and expect airspace over Davos to be closed to drones during the World Economic Forum. Private property, including hotel terraces at Schatzalp, needs the owner’s agreement; your photographer will ask.
- For families with small children, the lake path at Davosersee is flat, short and has space to run.
- Book Schatzalp for late afternoon and consider staying for dinner; the funicular runs in the evening too.
- Go to Sertig early on a weekday for an empty hamlet and soft light on the church.
- In winter, plan the shoot around midday, when the valley floor has sun.
- Check the WEF dates for January before fixing a winter trip.

Find a Photographer in DavosFrequently asked questions
How much does a photoshoot in Davos cost?
Photoshoots in Davos start from CHF 650, the Alpine starting price for 90 minutes. Lift tickets, extra time, a second location and video raise the total. Your proposal lists everything before you book; see pricing and what a photographer costs in Switzerland.
Where are the best photo spots in Davos?
Lake Davos for an easy, flat shoot; Schatzalp for history and a view over the valley; the Sertig valley for a traditional Walser hamlet. In winter, Parsenn and Jakobshorn give the snow scenes.
Is Davos good for a family photoshoot?
Yes. The round path at Lake Davos is flat and short, and the Schatzalp funicular takes four minutes, so small children and grandparents can join easily. See our family photoshoots in Switzerland for how a session with children works.
Can we do a photoshoot in Davos in winter?
Yes. Snow on Parsenn and Jakobshorn and the Schatzalp in winter all photograph well. The winter lift season 2026/27 starts on 13 November on Parsenn and 27 November on Jakobshorn, with weekend operation at first.
Can a drone be used in Davos?
Only where Swiss drone rules allow it: check the federal drone map for restricted zones first. During the World Economic Forum in January, airspace over Davos is closed to drones. Tell us when you request availability if aerial images matter.
Can we combine Davos with St. Moritz?
Yes. The two are connected by train with a change in Filisur, and many visitors stay in both. A couple photoshoot in Switzerland can be split across two places; ask for a multi-location package when you request availability.
