Quick answers

How much does it cost?
Wedding Photography starts from CHF 2,500. The final price depends on the place, duration, date, time of day, travel and any add-ons such as video, and is stated in your proposal before you book.
How long does it take?
A typical session lasts 8 hours and you receive around 250 edited photos.
What is included?
  • Around eight hours of coverage on the wedding day
  • Preparations, ceremony, family groups, couple portraits, apéro and the start of the evening
  • A planning call to go through the timeline, the venues and the must-have photos
  • Professional editing of the selected photographs
Where does it take place?
Popular places include Zurich, Geneva, Lucerne, Interlaken, and Bern. Your photographer suggests the best spot for your date, the light and the crowds.
Who is it for?
  • Couples marrying in Switzerland with family and friends, from about 20 guests upwards
  • Destination weddings where the couple and most guests travel from abroad
  • Swiss residents who want a photographer who knows the venue and the region
  • Bilingual or multicultural weddings that need a photographer comfortable in two or three languages
How does booking work?
Send a free request with your place, date and plans. Alpiora checks which photographers are available and replies with a proposal stating the photographer, the package and the exact price. Nothing is booked until you accept.

A Swiss wedding day often moves between very different places: a civil ceremony in a registry room in the morning, an apéro on a terrace, portraits by a lake or on a mountain, dinner in a hotel or a converted barn. Your photographer has to handle all of it, in changing light, and usually in more than one language.

Alpiora matches you with an independent wedding photographer who works in your region, speaks your language and has photographed weddings of your size and style. You send one request with your date and venues; we check who is free and send you a single proposal with the photographer, the coverage and the price.

The starting price of CHF 2,500 covers a full day of roughly eight hours. Weddings that run longer, need a second photographer, video or a lot of travel between venues cost more, and your proposal states exactly what is included. For a smaller wedding with only a few guests, elopement photography is often the better fit.

How it works

  1. 1

    Send your request

Tell us the date, the ceremony and reception venues, the number of guests and the languages you need. The availability request is free and carries no obligation.

  2. 2

    We match a photographer

We check which reviewed photographers who cover weddings in your region are free on your date, and whose style and languages fit. We reply personally.

  3. 3

    You receive a proposal

The proposal names the photographer, the hours of coverage, what is delivered, the price and the payment terms. The delivery time is stated there too.

  4. 4

    Confirm and plan the day

Once you accept, the booking is confirmed. Before the wedding you and your photographer agree the timeline, the portrait window and the list of family groups.

Where the session happens

Most Swiss weddings happen near water or with a mountain view. Lake Geneva and the Lavaux vineyards suit afternoon receptions with the lake below; Lucerne and Lake Lucerne combine an old town with boats and lakeside hotels. Zurich and Geneva work for city weddings with a lake promenade for portraits. For Alpine celebrations, Zermatt, Gstaad and St. Moritz have hotels used to hosting weddings, though mountain weather needs a sheltered plan B. Our guide to weddings in Switzerland covers venues and seasons in more depth, and wedding photography prices explains what changes the cost.

Preparation tips

  • Request your photographer as soon as the date and venue are fixed; summer Saturdays are the first to go.
  • Plan a 30–45 minute portrait window in the hour before sunset, away from the guests.
  • Give your photographer a written list of family groups with a named helper who knows everyone.
  • If the civil ceremony and the party are on different days, say so in your request so coverage can be split.
  • For a mountain venue, agree an indoor or covered alternative for portraits in case of rain or low cloud.
  • Check the photography rules at churches and registry rooms in advance; some limit movement or flash during the ceremony.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a wedding photographer cost in Switzerland?

Full-day wedding coverage through Alpiora starts at CHF 2,500 for around eight hours. The final price depends on the photographer, the date, the hours, travel between venues and add-ons such as a second photographer or video. Your proposal states the exact price before you book.

Can foreigners get legally married in Switzerland?

Yes, but only a civil ceremony performed by a Swiss civil registry office (Zivilstandsamt, état civil, stato civile) is legally valid. You first complete a preparatory procedure, either with the registry office or, if you live abroad, through a Swiss representation, and non-Swiss partners must show they are lawfully in Switzerland. Requirements and documents vary by nationality, so check with the registry office or the Swiss embassy well in advance.

Does the civil ceremony have to take place at the registry office?

The civil ceremony takes place in a ceremony room approved by the civil registry, usually at the office itself. Some cantons also approve external venues, such as castles or town halls, for civil ceremonies; the list is set by each canton. A symbolic ceremony, for example in a garden or on a mountain, can take place anywhere you have permission, but it has no legal effect.

Do we need witnesses for a civil wedding in Switzerland?

Yes. Swiss law requires two adult witnesses at the civil ceremony, each with a valid ID. If you do not understand the language of the ceremony, the registry office will ask you to bring an interpreter, usually at your cost.

Can our photographer cover both the civil ceremony and a later celebration?

Yes. Many couples have the civil ceremony in the morning and a symbolic ceremony or dinner later, or on a separate day. Tell us both dates and places in your request and the proposal will show how the coverage is split and priced.

Do Alpiora photographers speak English, German, French or Italian?

Languages differ from photographer to photographer and are shown on each profile. Tell us which languages your guests speak and we match you with a photographer who can direct groups in them.

When will we receive our wedding photos?

The delivery time is agreed in advance and stated in your proposal. Wedding galleries take longer to edit than a short session because of the number of photographs.
