Quick answers

How much does it cost?
Proposal Photography starts from CHF 650. The final price depends on the place, duration, date, time of day, travel and any add-ons such as video, and is stated in your proposal before you book.
How long does it take?
A typical session lasts 1 hour and you receive around 50 edited photos.
What is included?
  • A planning call or message exchange about the spot, time, route and your partner
  • Scouting advice: a map pin and a reference photo of the exact place to stop
  • An agreed signal and a backup plan if other people are standing in the way
  • Discreet coverage of the approach, the question and the reaction
Where does it take place?
Popular places include Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken, Zermatt, and Lauterbrunnen. Your photographer suggests the best spot for your date, the light and the crowds.
Who is it for?
  • Anyone planning a surprise proposal during a trip to Switzerland
  • Residents who want to ask at a place that already means something to them
  • Proposers who want the moment recorded without giving the plan away
  • Couples travelling with a tight itinerary who need the logistics handled locally
How does booking work?
Send a free request with your place, date and plans. Alpiora checks which photographers are available and replies with a proposal stating the photographer, the package and the exact price. Nothing is booked until you accept.

You only get one first reaction. A proposal photographer is there to catch it without being noticed: positioned before you arrive, dressed like any other visitor, working with a long lens from a distance, and stepping forward only once you have your answer.

This page explains the service itself: what a proposal photographer does, how the planning works and what to prepare. If you are still choosing where to ask, our guide to proposal locations in Switzerland compares the places.

Alpiora matches you with an independent photographer who has been reviewed for proposal experience, local knowledge and reliability. You receive a proposal with their name, the package and the price before anything is booked, and you can plan the details directly with them.

How it works

  1. 1

    Send a free availability request

Tell us the date, the place you have in mind (or that you need help choosing) and whether it is a surprise. The request is free and places you under no obligation.

  2. 2

    We match a proposal photographer

We check which reviewed photographers are free at that time and place and reply personally. For mountain spots we flag anything that affects the plan, such as the first or last train of the day.

  3. 3

    Proposal and confirmation

You receive a proposal naming the photographer, the package, the price and the payment terms, including the delivery time for the photographs. The booking is confirmed when you accept.

  4. 4

    Plan the moment together

You and the photographer agree the exact spot, the time, the signal and what happens if it rains or the spot is busy. You arrive; they are already there.

Where the session happens

The places that work best for a proposal share three things: a clear background, somewhere a photographer can stand unnoticed, and a reason for your partner to stop there. The lake shore near Iseltwald and the lanes of Lucerne are easy to reach; the jetty in Iseltwald has a paid turnstile and queues, so arrive early. On Rigi or around Zermatt, the view does the work, but timing depends on trains. The Lavaux vineyard paths suit a quieter walk. For local detail see proposals in Interlaken and proposals in Zermatt.

Preparation tips

  • Carry the ring in a slim pouch or a jacket pocket, not a hard box in your trouser pocket, where it shows in every photo.
  • Give your partner a reason to dress well without raising suspicion: a dinner reservation, or a "holiday photoshoot" you booked as cover.
  • Stop exactly where you agreed and face the direction the photographer suggested. A few metres off can mean a lamp post through your head.
  • Kneel on the side away from the photographer so your partner’s face is visible, not the back of your head.
  • Keep the day flexible. If the forecast looks poor, a second evening in the same area is often the simplest plan B.
  • Put your phone away once you arrive. The photographer has it covered.
  • For a drone shot, ask in advance: drones are subject to federal rules and many local no-fly zones, shown on FOCA’s drone map.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a proposal photographer in Switzerland cost?

Proposal photography through Alpiora starts from CHF 650, which covers planning, hidden coverage and a short couple session afterwards. Photo and video together start from CHF 850. The final price depends on the photographer, place, date, time of day and add-ons, and is stated in your proposal. Our proposal cost guide shows example budgets.

How does the photographer stay hidden?

They arrive before you, dress like a visitor and work from a distance with a long lens, often pretending to photograph the landscape or other people. You agree a spot and a signal in advance, so they know exactly when to start. Once your partner has answered, they come over and introduce themselves.

What if my partner notices the photographer?

In busy places, a person with a camera is part of the scenery, so it rarely raises suspicion. Some proposers avoid the risk entirely by booking what their partner believes is an ordinary couple photoshoot and asking in the middle of it. Your photographer can suggest which approach suits the place.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day?

The photographer watches the forecast with you and may suggest a different hour, a covered spot or a lower-altitude alternative. If you are flexible on the day, that helps a lot. Rescheduling and cancellation terms are set out in your proposal.

Can the photographer help me choose the spot?

Yes. Local knowledge is part of what we review photographers for. They can tell you which way a viewpoint faces at your hour, where the crowds stand and where they can hide, and send you a reference photo so you know exactly where to stop.

Is there video as well?

Yes. Proposal photo and video adds a filmed record of the moment and a short edited clip, from CHF 850. It usually means one extra person or a camera set up in advance, which is planned together with you.
