Send a free request with your place, date and plans. Alpiora checks which photographers are available and replies with a proposal stating the photographer, the package and the exact price. Nothing is booked until you accept.

Zurich is a good city for couples who do not like posing. The old town is small enough to walk end to end in fifteen minutes, so a session here is a stroll with stops rather than a string of set-ups: you talk, you walk, the photographer tells you where to turn. Five very different backgrounds sit within a kilometre of each other.

This page is the plan for that walk: which spots, in which order, and why the order matters in the late afternoon. For a wider look at the city, including Uetliberg and Zurich-West, see our Zurich location guide. If one of you is carrying a ring, the planning is different; read proposals in Zurich instead.

Alpiora matches you with an independent photographer who has been reviewed for their couples portfolio, languages and local knowledge. You receive a proposal with their name, the package and the price before anything is booked.

Where the session happens

  1. 01

    Augustinergasse

A short lane of painted oriel windows between Bahnhofstrasse and St. Peter. It stays in shade for much of the day, which keeps skin soft and gives you ten minutes to warm up with easy walking shots before the views start.

Best time: Start here, about two hours before sunset; any time on overcast days

  2. 02

    Lindenhof

Three minutes uphill, the lime-tree terrace looks east across the Limmat to the Niederdorf roofs and the Grossmünster towers. In the late afternoon the sun is behind you and lights the far bank, and the low walls give you somewhere to sit close together.

Best time: Late afternoon, 90 to 60 minutes before sunset

  3. 03

    Münsterhof and Münsterbrücke

Down the steps to the Fraumünster square and onto the short bridge: both churches, the river and the guild houses fit into one frame. By evening the daytime traffic of tour groups has thinned, and walking shots across the bridge look natural.

Best time: Early evening; blue hour if you come back for lit facades

  4. 04

    Limmatquai to Bellevue

Five flat minutes along the river on the right bank, with the old town reflected in the water. It is a transition, and photographers use it for candid frames: holding hands, talking, the moment you stop paying attention to the camera.

Best time: Early evening, on the way to the lake

  5. 05

    Utoquai lake promenade

From Bellevue the promenade runs along the right shore of Lake Zurich, with jetties, railings and open water. At sunset you look across the lake towards the far shore as the sky warms up, and on clear evenings the Alps appear at the end of the lake. This is where the session ends.

Best time: The last 30 minutes before sunset and the first minutes after

Typically included

  • A short planning exchange about date, style and the route above
  • A start time calculated from the sunset on your date
  • Around 60 minutes of guided photography with walking prompts rather than stiff poses
  • Professional editing of a curated selection of images
  • A private online gallery with high-resolution downloads for personal use
  • A rain plan using the old town arcades and passages

Preparation

  • Wear shoes that handle cobbles and steps: the old town sits on two small hills and the Lindenhof is reached by stairs.
  • Mid-tones work best against Zurich’s grey stone and blue water: navy, olive, cream, rust or dusty pink. Avoid neon, large logos and fine stripes.
  • Coordinate rather than match: one patterned piece between you is enough.
  • Bring a light layer, even in July. Evenings on the lake cool down quickly, and you can take it off for the photographs.
  • Long dresses and loose hair move in the lake breeze at Utoquai; that can look lovely, but pack a hair tie.
  • Leave the big bag at the hotel. A small one the photographer can put out of frame is easier.

Time of day

Book the session to end at sunset. In June and July golden hour falls after 20.00 and the sun sets after 21.00, so a sunset session is an evening plan; in December it is gone before 17.00. For quiet streets without the lake finale, early morning before 9.00 is the alternative. Weekend mornings are calmer than weekday evenings on the promenade.

Weather

Zurich’s weather changes quickly. Summer afternoons can build thunderstorms, so photographers watch the radar and may move the start earlier. From November to February the city often sits under low grey fog for days; flat light is flattering in the lanes, and the lake looks soft rather than dramatic. Light rain is workable under the arcades and with a neutral umbrella. If the forecast is poor, rescheduling follows the terms in your proposal.

Getting there

Meet at Paradeplatz or at the top of Augustinergasse, a short walk or tram ride from Zurich HB. Trains from Zurich Airport reach the main station in about 10–15 minutes. The session ends at Bellevue, a tram hub with connections back to the station and most hotels. A car is no help in the old town.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a couple photoshoot in Zurich cost?

A couple photoshoot in Zurich starts from CHF 390 for about 60 minutes. A 90-minute session, a sunset slot, a weekend date or a second location raise the price, and the exact figure is in your proposal before you book. Our guide to couple photoshoot costs breaks down what is worth paying for.

Where is the best place for couple photos in Zurich?

For a single session, the walk from the Lindenhof via the Münsterbrücke to the lake gives the most variety in the least distance. The Lindenhof carries the classic old-town view, and the Utoquai promenade gives you water and sunset. The Zurich photo guide covers more spots, including Uetliberg.

Do we need a permit for a couple shoot in Zurich?

Usually not. The City of Zurich lets small shoots on public ground go ahead without a permit when they use minimal portable equipment, involve no more than five people and last no more than about an hour including set-up. Longer or larger shoots need a permit, so your photographer will tell you if your plan falls outside the limits.

Can we do the session in the morning instead?

Yes. Before 9.00 the old town is close to empty, and the Münsterbrücke and Augustinergasse are yours. The trade-off is the light on the Lindenhof, which faces east and is backlit in the morning, and the lake, which is at its best in the evening.

What if we are not comfortable in front of a camera?

That is normal, and the route is built for it. The first stop is a quiet lane where you simply walk, and the photographer gives small prompts rather than poses. By the time you reach the lake, most couples have stopped thinking about the camera.

Which days should we avoid in Zurich?

The Street Parade weekend in August fills the lake basin with crowds, and big events on the promenade can do the same. Summer weekend evenings are busy at the lake but manageable. Tell us your dates in the request and we will flag any clash.

Can we add Lake Zurich or the mountains to the session?

Yes. Rapperswil and its wooden footbridge, Uetliberg above the fog or a lake boat trip can be added as a second location. That is offered as a multi-location session from CHF 850; see Lake Zurich for the options.
