Quick answers

How much does it cost?
Proposal Photo + Video starts from CHF 850. The final price depends on the place, duration, date, time of day, travel and any add-ons such as video, and is stated in your proposal before you book.
How long does it take?
A typical session lasts 1 h 30 min and you receive around 60 edited photos.
What is included?
  • A briefing call to plan the spot, the timing, the signal and your cover story
  • Scouting of hiding positions and the light for your time of day
  • A hidden photographer and videographer, or one hybrid shooter
  • Coverage of the proposal, the reaction and a couple session afterwards: 90 minutes in the starting package
Where does it take place?
Popular places include Zurich, Geneva, Lucerne, Interlaken, and Zermatt. Your photographer suggests the best spot for your date, the light and the crowds.
Who is it for?
  • People proposing who want to hear the moment again, not only see it
  • Couples whose families live abroad and will watch the film rather than the album
  • Proposals in a wide landscape, where video shows the scale better than one frame
  • Anyone planning to share a short film with friends or on social media
How does booking work?
Send a free request with your place, date and plans. Alpiora checks which photographers are available and replies with a proposal stating the photographer, the package and the exact price. Nothing is booked until you accept.

Photographs keep the look on a face. Film keeps what photographs cannot: the pause before the answer, the voice, the laugh, the person who forgot to stand up. If you already know you will want to watch it again, book both from the start; the moment cannot be staged a second time.

Alpiora arranges this with either a two-person team, one on stills and one on video, or a single hybrid shooter who does both. A team gives you two angles and full coverage of the ask; a hybrid shooter is less visible and suits small, quiet spots. We tell you which we recommend for your place, and why, before you book.

Planning is the same as for proposal photography, with more to hide. The team scouts where to stand, agrees a signal with you and, if you want your words on film, fits a small wireless microphone before you meet your partner. After the yes, the session turns into a relaxed couple shoot for the two of you.

How it works

  1. 1

    Tell us the plan

Send a free, no-obligation availability request with the date, the place you have in mind and whether you want a team or a single shooter. Undecided on the place? Say so.

  2. 2

    We match the crew

We check which photographers and videographers who know proposals and your area are free, and reply personally. If the spot is tricky to hide in, we say so and suggest alternatives nearby.

  3. 3

    Review the proposal

It names who will film and photograph, what you receive (photos, film length, raw clips if any), the price and the payment terms. Nothing is booked until you accept.

  4. 4

    Brief, hide, ask

Before the day you agree the exact spot, the signal and a plan B for rain. On the day the crew is in position before you arrive and stays out of sight until the answer.

Where the session happens

Good proposal-video spots have a clear line of sight from a hiding place and little background noise. The jetty at Iseltwald and the valley floor at Lauterbrunnen work well on quiet mornings; Zermatt offers the Riffelsee, ten minutes’ walk from Rotenboden on the Gornergrat railway, where a calm morning reflects the Matterhorn; Lucerne and the Rigi combine a city, a lake crossing and a summit. For a softer, vineyard setting, Lavaux above Lake Geneva works well in late afternoon. Our guide to proposals in Switzerland and the Zermatt proposal page go into each place in detail.

Preparation tips

  • Do not look for the crew when you arrive; if they are well hidden, your eyes are the only thing that can give them away.
  • Face your partner so that they turn towards the camera, and agree which side you kneel on during the briefing.
  • If you want your words on film, accept the microphone: from a hidden position, a camera will not pick up speech clearly.
  • Waterfalls, wind and busy roads drown out voices; a quieter spot a few minutes away often makes the better film.
  • Keep the ring box in an inside pocket rather than a trouser pocket, where the outline shows in the footage.
  • Plan for weather: agree a covered alternative or a back-up date with the crew rather than improvising on the day.

Frequently asked questions

How much does proposal photo and video cost in Switzerland?

Through Alpiora it starts from CHF 850 for 90 minutes. The price depends on whether you book a two-person team or one hybrid shooter, the place, the date and time of day, the film length and add-ons such as a microphone or drone. The full price is in your proposal before you commit.

Should I book a team or one hybrid shooter?

A team gives two angles and continuous video of the ask, which matters if the moment is short. A hybrid shooter is easier to hide and suits narrow or quiet places, but has to choose between stills and film at the key second. We recommend one or the other for your specific spot.

Will the film have sound?

Yes, but your spoken words need a microphone. The usual solution is a small wireless clip-on microphone worn by the person proposing, fitted before your partner arrives. Without it, the film will carry the ambient sound and whatever music is added in the edit.

Can you add drone footage?

Sometimes, if it is legal and will not spoil the surprise; a drone is loud and easy to spot. Swiss rules from the FOCA require a registered operator, visual line of sight, a 120 m height limit and no flying over crowds, and many places are restricted, including zones near airports and heliports, federal game and bird reserves and some resorts. Zermatt, for instance, does not allow drones over the village. Your crew checks the official drone map and any permissions before offering it.

What if my partner says they need a moment?

The crew keeps filming discreetly and gives you space. They do not approach until you signal that it is fine, and nothing is shared without your agreement.

When do we receive the photos and the film?

The delivery time is stated in your proposal and agreed in advance. The film usually takes longer to edit than the photos, so ask about both if you plan to show it at an engagement party.
