Verbier sits at about 1,500 metres on a wide, south-facing terrace above the Val de Bagnes in Valais, one of the driest and sunniest regions of Switzerland. Across the valley rises the Grand Combin; from the upper lifts the view reaches the Mont Blanc massif and, on clear days, the Matterhorn. The village itself is all timber chalets, stone roofs and larch forest.
Most sessions here are for couples, families on holiday, proposals and content creators who want mountain images with a sense of place. The lifts make the difference: in summer you can go from the village to an alpine lake or a 3,300-metre summit within an hour, which is why many Verbier sessions are 90 minutes or longer.
Verbier is priced as an Alpine location: sessions start from CHF 650. Our article on what a photographer costs explains what moves the price. When you know your dates, send an availability request.
Photo spots — Verbier
- 01
Place Centrale and the village
The small central square and the streets around it are lined with chalet-style hotels, bars and shops. It is lively in the ski season and quiet on summer mornings, and gives you a relaxed resort look with timber, stone and flower boxes.
- Best time
- Early morning in summer; blue hour in winter, with the chalets lit.
- Access
- In the village centre, a short walk or bus ride from the Médran gondola station.
- 02
Village viewpoints over the Val de Bagnes
From the upper streets and forest paths at the edge of the village, you look south across the valley to the Grand Combin. This is the easiest mountain panorama in Verbier: no lift, no altitude, and the whole range behind you.
- Best time
- Late afternoon and sunset, when the light is low and warm across the valley.
- Access
- On foot from the village; some paths are steep.
- 03
Les Ruinettes
The gondola from Médran rises to about 2,200 metres, onto open slopes with wide views over the Val de Bagnes and the surrounding summits. It is the gateway to the summer trails and the winter pistes, and a good middle ground between village and high mountain.
- Best time
- Morning or late afternoon; in summer, before the afternoon clouds.
- Access
- Gondola from Médran. In summer 2026 it runs from 27 June to 21 September; in winter with the ski area.
- 04
Lac des Vaux
A small alpine lake at about 2,545 metres, surrounded by scree, grass and, in summer, white cottongrass. Still water reflects the ridges around it. It feels remote, and it is: plan it as an adventure session, not a quick stop.
- Best time
- Summer and early autumn, on calm mornings or early afternoons.
- Access
- From Les Ruinettes on a marked red-and-white mountain trail, rated medium to difficult. Mountain shoes needed.
- 05
Mont Fort
The summit at 3,329 metres is the highest point of the ski area, with a panorama that takes in the Grand Combin, the Mont Blanc massif and the Matterhorn. It is high, cold and exposed; short, strong images work best here.
- Best time
- Clear mornings. In summer the lifts close for an hour at midday.
- Access
- Lifts via La Chaux and the Col des Gentianes. In summer 2026 from 4 July to 30 August, plus some September weekends; in winter with the ski area.
- 06
Croix de Coeur
A pass at 2,173 metres between Verbier and La Tzoumaz, with views over Verbier on one side and the Rhône valley on the other. Wide open meadows and a long evening horizon make it one of the best sunset spots near the resort.
- Best time
- Sunset in summer and early autumn.
- Access
- Walk from the Savoleyres gondola (summer 2026: 4 July to 30 August) or drive up the summer road.

Seasons
Winter (December to April) brings deep snow, ski-slope energy and very clear light; the Xtreme Verbier freeride final is held on the Bec des Rosses in late March. Summer runs from late June to September: the high lifts open in July, the meadows flower and the lakes thaw. The Verbier Festival (16 July to 2 August in 2026) fills the village with classical music. In late September and October the larches turn gold and the resort is quiet. May, June and November are the off-season, with many lifts closed.
Time of day
Verbier faces south and west, so it keeps the sun late. In the village and at Croix de Coeur, the last hour before sunset gives warm light across the valley. At altitude — Mont Fort, Lac des Vaux — mornings are safer: clouds often build over the peaks in summer afternoons, and the upper lifts close earlier than the village ones.
Weather
Valais is sheltered by high mountains on both sides and gets less rain than most of Switzerland, so clear days are frequent. Summer afternoons can still bring thunderstorms at altitude, and at 3,000 metres it can be below zero on a July morning. In winter, fresh snow and strong wind can close the upper lifts. Your photographer will plan the session around the forecast and the lift status.
Getting there
Take the train to Martigny, then the regional train up the valley to Le Châble (about 25 minutes), and the gondola from Le Châble to Verbier (about 13 minutes). From Montreux the whole trip takes about 1 hour 25 minutes; from Lausanne about 1 hour 30 to Le Châble; from Geneva Airport about 2 hours 20 to Le Châble; from Zurich about 4 hours. The gondola runs daily in the summer and winter seasons, with maintenance closures in spring and autumn; buses also climb the road from Le Châble. The nearby resort of Crans-Montana is a separate trip via Sion.
Good to know
The village and the hiking paths are public: no permit is needed for a private photoshoot. Lift tickets are extra and depend on how high you go; check the current lift calendar, as the upper lifts open for only part of each season. Above 2,500 metres the terrain is high-alpine: proper shoes, warm layers and a respect for weather changes are essential, and glacier areas off the marked paths are for mountaineers only. Camera drones must be registered with the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA); ask the lift company before flying near lifts or pistes and check the federal drone map.
- In summer, book high spots for the morning and village spots for the evening.
- Check that the lifts you need are running on your date — summer seasons are short.
- Bring a warm layer for Mont Fort even in July.
- Strong colours such as red, cobalt or mustard stand out against snow and grey rock.
- If the high mountains are in cloud, the village viewpoints over the Val de Bagnes usually still work.
- For a sunset proposal, Croix de Coeur is quieter than the lift stations.

Where are the best photo spots in Verbier?
In the village, Place Centrale and the viewpoints over the Val de Bagnes; higher up, Les Ruinettes, Lac des Vaux, Mont Fort and Croix de Coeur. The village spots fit into 60 minutes; anything above 2,000 metres needs a lift and more time.
How much does a photoshoot in Verbier cost?
Verbier is priced as an Alpine location, so sessions start from CHF 650. The final price depends on the photographer, date, duration, and whether you go up the mountain. Lift tickets are separate, and your proposal states the photography price before you book.
When is the best time for photos in Verbier?
Winter from December to April for snow, and July to September for green meadows, alpine lakes and the high lifts. Late September and October bring golden larches and very few visitors. May, June and November are quiet, with many lifts closed.
Can we take a lift to a photo spot in summer?
Yes. In summer 2026 the gondola to Les Ruinettes runs from 27 June to 21 September, and the lifts to Mont Fort from 4 July to 30 August plus some September weekends. The gondola from Le Châble to Verbier runs most of the year. Always check the lift calendar for your date.
Is Verbier good for a family photoshoot?
Yes. The village and the viewpoints over the valley are easy with children, and Les Ruinettes adds mountain scenery without a long walk. For young children, a village session is usually enough. See family photography in Switzerland.
Is Verbier a good place for a proposal?
Yes, especially at sunset at Croix de Coeur or on a quiet morning at Lac des Vaux. The photographer waits nearby and captures the moment unseen. Our Swiss proposal guide explains how it works.
